Having first met Rep when he was a nine-year-old boy, it's been wonderful to see his growth and development into a 50-year-old man - 50 years old - still very hard for me to believe. It was good to witness his joy when he got accepted out of high school into Mercer and then into law school at Mercer. His dad was quite proud - rightly so - when Rep joined our firm. Of course, Rep will tell you his greatest joy is when he met and married Simone. They certainly are a perfect match. Rep - you deserve tremendous credit for building the estate planning practice. You can take great pride in all the people in the Seminole community who have been helped by your wise counsel. I not only had the opportunity to work in the same building with Rep over the past 26 years and witness his passion he also helped tremendously with my family when we needed his expertise. It was a very emotional time, and my family was very fortunate to have his expertise during our time of need. Rep is kind and passionate with all he does. We have been a team in this for 18 years now and along the way I have endured some personal challenges, as you know. For a time, I was overwhelmed and not being kind to myself and was beating myself up feeling as if I was always failing someone either in my personal life or some client expectation, but you were always a source of support and would lift me up. One time, in particular, I recall you said to me "Tammy, for any one thing you might think you do wrong, you do 10 things right and you need to remember that" and I have tried to carry that with me. I hope you know what that means to me. I treasure the relationship we have and the practice we have worked so hard to nurture- all based on your leadership and ideas. I would follow you to the moon if you said let's go tomorrow I would start a spreadsheet and procedures for how we would get there! Happy Birthday and Congrats on this milestone. You can look at turning 50 many ways, your half way to 100, try to remember when you were 25 and how it never occurred to you that some day you'd be 50. In Rep's case I look at half his life he has dedicated himself to helping others. There are also many ways to look at the word Success, some would associate a dollar amount of who is successful, I am more prone to look at someone's character. Asking me to make this a short few words is impossible, if I am to describe the man I work for and come to know. Work ethic, dedication, compassion, understanding, respectful, realistic are a few words that come to mind. He is my boss, but a partner in what we do, he knows we are not in a cookie cutter business. He is always open to suggestions, he is always willing to teach us, and above all always available to listen. My almost twelve years along side of Rep is my career success, he has taught me much about the law, life, and that living is more than just getting up each morning, it's at the end of the day feeling it mattered and making a difference. I have had the pleasure and learned much from Rep. He is gentle, kind and extremely considerate of everyone, clients, staff, and everyone around him. I remember one experience working with Rep that gave me great respect for him. Patricia, one of his estate planning clients, passed away with one son, Christopher. Her trust provided a generation skipping trust wherein her two grandchildren received the residue of the estate, not the son. Patricia’s son met with Rep and I shortly after his mother passed for a “reading of her Will”. Christoper exploded when he learned that the Trust provided for his children and not him, as to the residue. If I remember correctly Christopher did receive his mother’s home. Rep with his understanding of the disappointment of the son, quickly diffused the situation. Rep was accused of having Pat change/create her Trust, so Chris did not receive the residue. Rep was impressive with his compassion for Chris. There were no more issues with Chris. What an honor working with Rep and knowing him. It helps that he loves animals too! Wishing you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
