The DHC/STC Green Team proudly hosted its inaugural speaker series, delving into the enlightening realm of the Nine Principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™. This engaging event, led by the Doris Heitzmann, Program Manager of the UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) Program in Pinellas County, provided invaluable insights on seamlessly incorporating these principles into our surroundings.

The discourse navigated the art of crafting visually appealing and low-maintenance Florida-Friendly landscapes, emphasizing their water conservation, environmental friendliness, and potential for time and cost savings. Doris Heitzmann's expertise illuminated the pathway to cultivating sustainable and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces.

The program's impact was not only educational but also nourishing, thanks to a delectable fall-themed lunch generously sponsored by the Palms of Largo. This communal gathering not only fostered learning but also provided an opportunity for networking and community building.

A noteworthy highlight showcased the practical application of the principles, as Simone and Rep DeLoach's personal yard earned recognition as a "Florida-Friendly Landscaping" haven, underscoring their commitment to sustainable landscaping practices. Recognitions are offered for three different categories of landscapes: Home, Commercial, and New Construction. Landscapes are evaluated based on a checklist of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ practices. Florida-Friendly landscapes receive a yard sign to display and a certificate for the recognition at either silver or gold level.
