What Does "Of Counsel" Mean?

The term "Of Counsel" is a recognized professional designation under the rules governing attorneys in the State of Florida. According to guidance from The Florida Bar, an "Of Counsel" relationship refers to a close, continuing, and regular professional relationship between attorneys or law firms. It is more substantial than a simple referral relationship or shared office space.

In practical terms, this means our firms maintain an ongoing professional affiliation while continuing to operate as separate law firms with distinct practice areas and services.

A Natural Fit

Our relationship with Chambers Injury Law is a natural component to the services each firm provides. Chambers Injury Law focuses on personal injury and accident matters, while DeLoach, Hofstra & Cavonis concentrates on:

While our St. Petersburg location will primarily focus on Estate Planning, Elder Law, and Real Estate matters, DHC will continue providing Injury Law services through our Seminole and Sun City Center offices.

By working collaboratively, we are able to better serve clients who may benefit from trusted legal guidance across multiple areas of law.

What This Means for Our Clients

Clients visiting our St. Petersburg location can expect the same personalized attention, compassionate guidance, and trusted counsel they have come to expect from DHC for nearly 50 years.

Meetings at the St. Pete office are available by appointment and are coordinated through our main office. Clients will continue to work directly with DHC attorneys and staff for their legal matters.

Importantly:

  • DeLoach, Hofstra & Cavonis and Chambers Injury Law remain separate law firms
  • Client confidentiality remains protected under Florida Bar rules
  • Each firm maintains its own legal representation and professional responsibilities
  • Any referrals or shared matters are handled in accordance with Florida Bar ethical requirements and client disclosure rules
