The dHC team painted flowerpots to practice mindfulness on Earth Day

On Tuesday, March 22, our team came together for a meaningful and uplifting outdoor lunch activity in celebration of Earth Day and in preparation for Mindful May, our month-long wellness initiative.

We enjoyed painting flowerpots under the open sky—a simple, hands-on experience that beautifully blended the serenity of nature with the joy of creativity. This event served as a reminder that small, mindful moments can have a big impact on our mental health and sense of connection.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a national movement to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental well-being. At our firm, we use this time to kick off Mindful May—a dedicated month of activities, tips, and reminders designed to support the mental, emotional, and physical health of our team.

While we promote wellness year-round, Mindful May serves as a meaningful “refresher course,” encouraging us to revisit the tools and habits that help us manage stress, set healthy boundaries, and take care of ourselves and each other—both at work and in our personal lives.

Mental Health Benefits of Painting Flowerpots Outdoors:

  • Encouraged Mindfullness: Focusing on colors, patterns, and brushstrokes helped us stay present and grounded.
  • Reduced Stress: Sunshine and art proved to be the perfect pairing, naturally lowering our stress levels.
  • Boosted Mood: Tapping into our creativity brought a sense of joy and accomplishment.
  • Connected Us with Nature: Time spent outdoors lifted our spirits and offered a healthy dose of vitamin D.
  • Sparked Creativity: The freedom to express ourselves artistically was both refreshing and inspiring.
  • Built Community: Sharing the experience strengthened our workplace connections and supported emotional well-being.
  • Engages the Senses: The textures, scents, and sights around us created a calming, full-sensory experience.

This Earth Day activity reminded us that wellness doesn't always require big changes—sometimes, it begins with a paintbrush, a flowerpot, and a little time outside.

Stay tuned for more Mindful May moments as we continue our commitment to cultivating a happy, healthy workplace all year long.
